Snagged a carbine stock off of ebay, it had been de-sporterized. It has a chip on the buttplate. The guy threw in the buttplate, band spring and a 1898 band. Much better than what I had. ...
Krag is pretty mild and fun to shoot. I enjoy Enfields and Swiss rifles too. Mosin, not so much.
I've been complaining lately, but today was a good day.:)
I generally buy sporterized rifles as project guns to restore. I saw this sporter Krag on GB with a pretty low bin price. This one I bought...
Just received a 1899 carbine handguard from E. Taylor. I took off the rear sight and when I slide the handguard back it will not go over the receiver end. I cant take any material off the underside...
Why would I touch either band? I was just talking about the upper band swivel itself and where to get a retaining pin for the lower band.
John. I know stacking swivels don't move side to side,...
Thank you, I'll just keep the 1901 rifle sight. I don't have the wherewithal to fight eBay people for a carbine sight. How often are 2300yrd shots made with a Krag carbine with open sights?
I measured wrong + I cant count. I measured with a rod to the breech and it is 22". But, someone did flatten the crown.
Your are right about the barrel. It is 19 1/4" Not only did the cut the barrel, they moved the front sight back, I think? Hardly seems worth the effort. I wonder if this was re-barreled years ago...
The rear, rear sight screw is buggard up and the lock lever if frozen. I don't think the barrel has been cut but are crowns on carbines that flat?
Thank you. I couldn't see a C, but I'll look again.

1899 Carbine #287841. I thought all it needed was a handguard. The stock has been sanded down to the point that the handguard would be too fat. That looks like it was done a very long time ago. The...
Thank you
Thank you
Hello, can you please check #420858, its on a cut down 1898. Thank you
I just received a 1898 rifle today. The stacking swivel stays back and wont swivel. The ring of the stacking swivel is not round and wont allow it to swivel. This is my first Krag so I Have no idea...
Thank you
Could someone check SRS on 195516, 1898 rifle. Thank you
Dunlaps emailed me back. Now they say they can do it, but have to locate the right kind of wood.
Someone heard you about that handguard, the nicer one was bought a few minutes later
Thanks I'll give him a shot
I showed the folks at Taylor my picture and this:
" According to Franklin B. Mallory, "The Krag Rifle Story", page #75, the N.Y.C. firm of Louis Windmuller and Roelker furnished 13,000 stocks of...
UGH. I contacted Dunlaps, they told me to contact Taylor. Taylor said all Krags were American walnut. I'm stuck.
I know they are not correct, but I'm I correct in thinking the stock in the...
Thank you. I ended up buying two rifles, a carbine and a sporter. One rifle needs nothing, one needs the forearm splice, the carbine needs just a handguard and the sporter, well, it will forever be a...
