What markings did the sight protector have for the Singer manufactured 1903A3?
I picked up one from a member here recently.
I realize that this is an old thread but would you still have it?
I want to replace the trigger housing on it to an R marked one where would be a good place to find one?

When did they cease production? 1903 or later? I thought i had read 1907, but that may have been when they were withdrawn from service?
Don't know haven't had the action out of the stock.
I have had this 1898 Krag for awhile, the stock has 1903 cartouche and the serial number i believe to be near the end of production.

On my Rock Island I have a stock i'm trying to ID. At some point i thought i read that the number IDed it as a NM stock but now i can't find that info to save my life....

It was plastic.
The M1 that i got from the CMP had an oiler that had an inventory sticker dated 1964 in the buttstock.
The open end of the U should go up, the U was a way for the soldier to know how to reassemble his Rifle correctly.

To me that would stop me from using it.
Something to think about is when they rebuild a rifle, they start by taking it all apart and checking for wear and tear. If a part passes inspection it will go back on the rifle if not a replacement...
