As I said, the lettering is very faded and is hard to get in the pictures.
Hello all. For an early Christmas present I received an old ammo crate for the 1898 Krag rifle. The lettering on it is very faded, however you can make out "1200 Ball Cartridges, Bandoleer, Model...
Thanks for the replies guys. Glad I posted this question. I learned a few new things.
Hello all. The 1903A3 was meant to be an upgrade from the 1903, however as I understand it, the 03A3 was developed after the Garand had been adopted and was in wide use by all the services. So why...
Thank you for the information. Well it seems that it was probably more common for any given Marine during WW2 to have a canteen manufactured under an Army contract than by DQP. It also looks like I...
Thanks for clearing that up...I was under the impression that the ones used by the Marine Corps had slight variances in them.
I do not have covers for these but will be getting one for each.
Hello all. My U.S. military rifle collecting has mutated into collecting U.S. military items from the WW1 and WW2 era with a special focus on Marine equipment. My dad gave me two canteens that I...
I don't know, nor can I find anyone that does. I even sent a pic of it to Bruce Canfield...all he could say was that he had never seen that before.
It has the 1896 sights.
I will get pics of it tomorrow and post them up.
Thanks for the info guys. I took another look at my rifle and it does in fact have the correct '96 stock.
Thanks, that's exactly what I was looking for. I assume that just like any other service rifle they were re built and got whatever stock was next in the bin.
Hello, I have an 1896 Krag rifle that I think may have an 1898 stock, but I cannot find anything definitive. I believe the difference is where the bolt handle rests. Can someone please show me how an...
How much do they run you there? Here one that is WW1 vintage and in decent shape will be over $100...at least from what I have seen.
Thank you. I'm thinking that I am going to swap in a 1907 sling as the one on it now is beginning to tear at the end.
Thank you!
Sure..

Thanks guys. I agree, it is wrong. I think Bubba attempted to put a bead sight in. I just wanted to check that I wasn't missing anything.
Here is a pic with the black filling in it. What is strange is that it is a 1/4" away from the muzzle...Im about 90% positive that the bead on '97's was 1/2" inch away from the muzzle. Thats the...
Eddystone 869780
Winchester 266632
Thank you!
Not sure on the slides, but take down model mag tubes have an extra hole on the muzzle end for the take down lever. Mag tubes for solid frame guns (WW1) did not have it. See the thread in the below...
Hello all. I have a Winchester 97 built in 1918 that appears to be a legitimate Trench gun. After reading Canfield's book, I believe it to be a WW2 rebuild as it exhibits the following...
Hello all, I was wondering if anyone has or knows where to find a chart that lists styles of the flaming bomb marking used on U.S. military weapons, and the dates used.
I tried google and while I...
OK, thanks for the replies. I'll wait until a better one comes around
Brass is hard to find but factory ammo should be easy to come by if you look around online. In fact I know Midway has it right now. Just save the brass that you have shot. That's what I do.
