That's an AAQ, as in Q, not a lower case a.
Scant is stamped S in the cutoff, so an early one, made in '42.
The stamps both look "new", or done near the same time. It would seem that one was...
"US forces burned the M1917's"
Please cite your references on this! Interesting statement that I would like to learn more about.

Mike S - Could be a USMC re-park/rebuild, who knows?

Negative.

Yes Sir, especially when it comes time to resell.
Mike
Everything looks "too good", for me. My opinion.

Smith Corona overran their first block (3608000 - 3707999), into Remington's, creating duplicates - the C was added to the SC rifles
Rem A3's overran their production into a block assigned to A4's...
You've got a long way to go on that project, and likely have close to $1,500 in it before its all said and done. Original barrel would have been dated 8 or 9-43. Doesn't matter for your shooter,...
Hard to tell from the photo, but what is the serial number?
Mike
Nothing on that serial. Mike
Looks like there is a partial "A" to the left of the "R". Along with the 3 under the 1, this would indicate to me that the barrel was in the incorrect position when the stamping began, off by about...
Seems to be put together from parts, but it is a nice clean rifle. Id be willing to bet those cross bolts are not tightened.
Mike
That's pretty good shooting. I guess the bulge is not close enough to the muzzle to affect accuracy much! Post some photos. I like seeing the many different styles of sporters. Never know what is...
Looks good! I'd be tempted to steel wool and touch up with cold blue that scope.
Mike
Bayonet band might be a Remington, too. Good looking rifle, for sure!
Mike
Looks like a Redfield mount. The old school vertical split rings are not cheap.

You might have to be conscience of how the rings...
Here's the best measurements I could come up with, for now. But I can't guarantee the screws are correct because I still need to drill out the plugs in my receiver! I'm surprised the screw heads...
Thanks Steve! To be honest, I haven't even taken the time to do that myself!:D Photos of the scope to come soon. Decorating for Christmas now!:help:

I recently purchased a M1913 Warner & Swasey to use on a sniper build I'm working on. Came with the leather case, mounting bracket, and screws. I'll start a thread on that later.
A few weeks...
I think this quote was made in error, as any A3 stock can house a M1903. The handguard, on the other hand, is for the A3 only.
I'd bet money the stock in question was made by Remington during its...
Looking at SRS, I would not rule out G&H. Mike

Kinda early. 332xxxx were the first A3's. Looking at the VIshooter site, 2 groove barrels started to appear in production around the same time your rifle was produced.
Mike
Nice rifle. I like those early SA scant stocks. The later ones, milled for the A3, don't look right on an '03, to me.
Mike
I was under the impression the punch mark signified the rifle has successfully fired a proof round (higher pressure cartridge). I could be wrong.
