This is actually ASW which is the manufacturer code for E&F Horster. 44 is the year of manufacture and the 9229y is the individual serial number.
Does the scabbard have the same markings...

PS&S Ltd - Prince-Smith & Stells, Keighley,Yorkshire England - they were assemblers of the bayonet using components supplied by other companies. They delivered 1,067,039 No 4 MkII* bayonets....
