Somewhere I heard it said that the large calibre gun barrels of battleships were the most difficult part of the ship to make. Presumably that is why the barrels were sometimes recycled onto other...
GeeRam, do you happen to know if that Mosquito, post 185, is one of the ones built by the Standard Motor Company in Coventry, please?
As an aside, a few years ago, before I found out that the one without an inscription was relatively rare I thought that might try selling it on eBay because I had 2 of these bells. I listed it and...
They sound a bit "tinny", not the best bell sound but they were more symbolic. Church bells hadn't been rung in the UK since the start of the war except on one or two special occasions.
Luftwaffe...
These bells were made just after WW2, in the UK, to raise money for the RAF Benevolent Fund and were cast from aluminium salvaged from German aircraft shot down over Great Britain during WW2. There...
One of the more "quirky" items that I have in my WW2 home front collection is this combined first aid kit and book with the addition of air raid precautions. It dates to 1939 and was a private...
So US Civil Defence helmets didn't all have the US Civil Defence badge on the front of it?
Seen on the top of my helmet shelves, these axes were made for the UK Civil Defence during WW2 for rescue work and featured an insulated rubber handle tested to 20,000 volts. Personally I wouldn't...
I'm not sure which WW2 German 75mm shell it is currently.
This one looks similar?

Yes Zuckerman helmets were issued for certain jobs like fire watchers and first aiders but they could also be purchased by the general public as my family did, purchasing 3. Certain categories of job...
I've got several Zuckerman helmets in my home front collection in various sizes and by the various makers. They could be supplied in several different colours but the most common colour found is...
Thanks Jim, I've cleaned the shell up a bit and there appear to be at least 3 Waffenamt markings, indicating Nazi era. It looks like the marking is au over jm.
I think that it is a Strikemaster, post 181.
Thanks Jim. It is difficult to read but I think it is "34 followed by DU over JM.
I may need to clean it up a bit more.
This inert, FFE, shell was recently sold to me by an antique shop as a WW2 German 7.5 cm shell. I could tell in the shop by looking at it that it isn't a WW1 German 7.5 cm shell but is it WW2 German...
Yep, things always seem expensive if I want to buy an item but not worth much if I want to sell the very same item.
No the scope case didn't sell which I only came across by chance while looking for something else. As it only had a few minutes left I got the details while I could.
Did you use pure acetone or something like nail varnish remover that has a high acetone content?
I noticed this canvas case on eBay UK with only a few minutes left on the listing. I wasn't aware that there was a canvas scope case as an alternative to the scope tin.
It was more a case of getting maximum use out of appliances and, therefore, during the 1970's most of our domestic appliances dated to the 1950's.
There was a French "off-shoot" of Dinkey that had, unsurprisingly, a factory in France and produced models of French military vehicles.
It is a "Corgi" model, a well known make in the UK but, sadly, no longer manufactured here.
I purchased this model recently from a charity shop. It brought a smile to my face to see that it is made in Vietnam.
