Sure was, got my first, a matching numbers gun in mint shape for $125 in about 1975. Even the mag...matched.

The real armorers did use those to make #5 butts towards the end of their service life...

Anyone wants to see how many #5 carbines are available and price, look at CanadianGunNutz for a minute. Look at the military...WTS...maybe a dozen this minute.

There was an ad in an old Bannerman catalogue that suggested having a bayonet for your Krag rifle so as to save the second shot with a downed animal...an ad from 1927...

Over here, hunting rifles don't require a bayonet...or sight ears or a flash cone... That's why guys cut them.

I just attended the Chilliwack gun show, several others here did too...and there was at least 12+ there. None were shabby that I say and a few bordered on as new. The prices were from $500 to...
