The .30-06 FN’s didn’t go to Israel or the Middle East. Various South American countries, Morocco, and Belgium bought them in that calibre.

I've got a Columbian FN M1930 Mauser carbine. 17.75" barrel in .30-06. Made about 1950.

Well, it's got a generation or four of rust in all the nooks and crannies so I wonder if that little screw got stuck in there and then someone mushed the slot trying to get it loose.
