I'd like to slug it, but I don't have a suitable dowel handy at the moment.
The firing pin spring is split in two, but I think there should be a two-piece spring arrangement with the smallest...
Thanks. It turned up in a friend's shop as part of a collection.
The barrel measures 28" inches. Minor pitting, dark in the grooves, fairly strong and bright lands, chamber clean and free of pits,...
I think what puts most people off is ammunition availability. It's seldom as readily stocked as many more popular service cartridges.
The rifle itself is, in my opinion, very good. I've had two...
The stamps on the left side of the receiver are all that's immediately visible. Nothing visible on the stock.

The the washer isn’t galling, thankfully. The smallest spring fits inside cocking piece.
The broken firing-pin spring seems to be the cause of the resistance. Between sourcing a new spring and taking it to a gunsmith next week, it'll be awhile till it's fired.
This is what I used as a...
That’s the wrong model of bolt. Pity this didn’t strip in the same manner as the MKII or MKIII - it would’ve been easier.
And yes, checking the manual, it seems the spring has snapped. 😕
I think the springs in mine are interspersed by several parts, such as a small washer. I'm about to clean and reassemble it, so more on that later.
Got it apart. I now have a good strategy for how it's done, so if anyone else needs help, I can explain how they come apart.
It's in good shape, but I am wondering if the rough, darkened surface...
I picked this rifle up today and I'm in the process of cleaning it. It was sold as a MKI, but seems to have a few MKII features as well and very little in the way of markings.
The bolt is bone dry...
Hi,
Since these were built with a Mauser 98 receiver, would a 1200TX that was factory drilled and tapped for standard PH bases be able to accommodate a rail such as this without modification being...
Hi,
No, it's dated 1916. Next to the date is written, as best as I can make out, this: "W.B&.Co Ltd."
On the back is the MOD acceptance mark with the number 125 beneath it.
I'm guessing this is a fairly standard example and probably worth about £70 to £100? It's a beautiful piece, but I can't really afford to collect knives along with firearms.
Where's good to sell...
I always quite fancied owning an FR-8 after seeing many photos and reading many discussions about them on US forums. Unfortunately it seemed that the vast majority of them were exported out of Europe...
Yes, it's certainly load of choice in the UK. :)
Before the new barrel (original being very worn, including bad crown and seemingly endless fouling) it would keep most shots in the black at...
I've had a Winchester P14 for several years. It is a nice rifle, mainly matching parts, intact volley sights, overall pretty good condition.
The original barrel was well past its best and I had it...
I didn't actually notice that. It certainly would be a very unusual conversion if chambered in that calibre. They are probably both the same rifle since dealers will often purchase a bargain, add a...
Hi,
I found one converted to a target rifle and chambered in this calibre. Any particular reason to avoid a rifle like this? Unfortunately the picture of it is awful and really doesn't give much...
