M1 Garand Born on Date

It appears that your rifle was made in December, 1918 and the J5 (marked on the bottom of the safety lug) bolt would be correct.

I've had a bolt come apart at the range because of a broken extractor plunger. Another common problem is an incorrectly assembled extractor/extractor plunger.

Does your rifle have a Mark I stock? Does it have the other Mark i parts?

Those are sub-inspection marks applied by Remington at the factory as the rifle was manufactured and inspected.
