HRA LEAD rebuild(Stickied for HRA). The rifle is the cleanest Service Grade I have ordered. The serial number is a 5.73 with a 2-56 HRA barrel, TE1.5, ME 2. It has a mixture of interesting parts...
You are very kind, sir. Thanks, Rick.
When I talked to Sandy on the phone and she said it was sold as a Rack Grade, I said hard to believe.....she laughed. I think the grading criteria has change a bit in the last 20 years.
For $25 you can write a letter to Sandy Farlow at the South Store and she will do a serial number research on the rifle then you will know exactly what you have. I would keep that rifle as it is a...
Thanks Singer B, that's my article. The X marked rifles were the last bunch of Garands ever made. Springfield had a bunch of National Match parts but no barrels. However they knew that 2000 or so...

The COA I got from Sandy today says the rifle was sold as a rack grade, so it was a complete rifle.
That's what I thought too. Hard to believe that a huge collector of premium Garands would have had this done. Now I start looking for a stock. Pretty sad day for me.....the rest of the rifle is...
I purchased 4250808 at the estate auction for Harry E. Peabody a longtime military firearms collector. The two day auction had over 100 Garands in it and one caught my eye because it was an 0-66...
Reading it now....real good stuff.
I'll check my carbine club newsletters but I think you are correct.
My rifle was manufactured on March 23, 1943.
Don't worry, I won't even think about removing it and thanks for the education. When did they change the pin to the headed style?
Wrong, I appreciate constructive suggestions and always have, Moo.
Got it....yes it has been broken but it can't be removed. This is the first early Winchester that I have actually touched and didn't know what the pin was for. I did not see the hammer pin installed...
It doesn't look cut off to me....there is still a tip there. The fact is that it is an original part. The whole rifle has original parts. I am done with this forum as all you guys want to do is find...
Additional pictures added...hope you like them. The friction pin I had never seen before but after monkeying with it I can see why it was eliminated! The best way I found was to start the pin in the...
That's is not a punch mark, it's a ding. I don't know what to make of the other mark under the rear sight, under magnification it looks like small dings in a line.
I'm real busy tomorrow but will disassemble for internal soon. Thanks for the comments.
PI found this one for me. This is one from the first block SN1049220 and I waited a long time for it. The OC cartouche is on it's side and the SN is a mess but all the parts seem correct. ME is 1.5....
[QUOTE=painter777;444788]Paul,
I'm Charlie from up in Michigan you may remember me as we did a little business years ago.
I didn't update or take the time to Fluff up my Profile but your Welcome...
Not stained, just Linseed Oil which darkens over the years. Thanks to General Alexander Archer Vandegrift and the 1st Marine Division, the Japanese never invaded NZ and the rifles went into storage....
I really love these Long Branch No4 Mk1*'s. This is number 3 in my collection and I hadn't seen one in years. A 75 year old time machine.......

Ruth says that when Rock Ola ran out of Walnut they started using Cherry. If it looks like Cherry and there's evidence they used Cherry then it's probably Cherry! Whatever it is, it's the finest Rock...
