    Something Special

Had the privilege today to handle a truly rare piece of Australianicon weapons history. I have to string this out a bit, I usually do. So here is a (near) full length pic, and a pic of the butt socket to help things along. I forgot to put the rear handguard back on after confirming the matching serial numbers, my apologies, the rifle is complete...

    5th Batt.

Lithgow only made 2700 in 1922. source: Skennertonicon

So it's a 1922 with long range sight and dial indicator still fitted. Nice find.

That makes it rare. I suppose we will have to wait to find out what mekes it a truely rare piece of Australianicon history.

anything to do with what looks to be restamping on the butt socket???

It's 1928. The pic didn't come out real clear, but it is definitely 1928... expand it right out and you can tell.

oh, and much rarer than one of 2700...

Thanks Son, my 1926 always looks like 1925 in a photo.

I am still learning Lithgows so I may be way off here, but is it a 1928 dated receiver with a 1929 dated barrel making it 1 of 340 rifles from the 1929-30 production?

Looks like I better post another pic. The idea of it being assembled in the 29-30 year is about to go out the window I'm afraid.... but good work anyway tlvaugn!
