Trying to solve barrel adjustment on win. Model 97 trench shotgun
WHEN I ATTEMPT TO PUT THE GUN TOGETHER IN THE LAST THREADS AND THEN TURN IT IN, THE TWO HALVES WILL NOT QUITE GET TO AN ALIGNMENT. THE ADJUSTMENT COLLAR IS AT THE END OF IT'S TEETH. LOOSING AND GOING THE OTHER WAY ONLY MAKES THE PROBLEM WORSE. HOW DO I FIX THIS? ARE THE PARTS AVAILABLE? I UNDERSTAND THERE ARE SHIMS AVAILABLE BUT ONE PERSON SAID THAT IS NOT THE WAY TO GO. ANY SUGGESTIONS? PLEASE EMAIL TO denwhit@comcast.net
Thanks in advance for your help.

I take it you mean the two halves are still loose?

No, it's too tight to turn in so the receiver and barrel yoke fits flush. This is at the end for the teeth as you are looking at the barrel and locking bar, the last of the teeth then the ring is smooth going up and CCW. If I grab a tooth second from the end, the barrel stops even further from going flush. ???

Do the serial numbers match front and back? Sounds like there's already been a mix and match. Shims don't help. That's only if they're loose.

Yes, the serial numbers match.

Then it almost has to be the adjustment ring that's out of whack, but without seeing it we can't tell...much...

Did you separate the two halves? How did it come apart? Easy? Hard? Have you checked the index stop screw in the receiver face to be sure it hasn't backed out?
Photos would sure be a big help.
