This was given to me by an elderly neighbor following the death of her husband. It actually belonged to his brother (who preceded him in death). His brother served in the Pacific during WW2 and brought it home with him.

Unfortunately, I don't know anything about this other than it's Japaneseicon. Any info you can provide would be appreciated. Such as --- What is the proper name for this style sword? Who would have carried it? Is the number on the blade a serial #?
Anything you can think of would be appreciated.
