Advisory Panel
Ovidio, when making your decision, consider that the PH5B alone is worth around € 220-250.

Ovidio-- The Parker hale PH5B rear target sight will fit the M1917 as well. They can turn the battle beast into a tack driver with the right ammunition. I have several M1917 rifles with the Parker Hale 5B installed that I used in in my rifle matches.

I talked to the guy and should go see the rifle next week.
He told me all parts are Winchester. I'll have to see for further details.
Allegedly the rifle is extremely accurate...let's hope.
My wife didn't flinch, so I have some hope

Did you get a chance to see the rifle this week?

I had to go today, but I just arrived home after being blocked at the Cologne airport for 26 hours.
2 cm of snow, and all hell broke loose...
I'll go next week, as soon as I can.
The guy seems to be a friendly one, and is keeping the rifle for me to see.
I'm really fretting now...

She also used to practice dynamic shooting with me some 25-20 years ago, just after my military service.
The better part of me and also a gun enthusiast. The Lord really keeps His hand over my dumb head!
I guess I’m a really lucky guy.

Here she is!
Today I got my job done in Austria pretty early, so I tried my luck and called this guy to see if I could pop in in the late afternoon and see the rifle.
He said ok and at 6:00 PM I was there.
This guy has an amazing collection...
160 milsurps, of the finest types. From WWI to Desert Storm. 120 or so original sniper rifles from any army imaginable.
He also has the Greek Mannlicher Schoenauer from WWI, a rifle I’m craving for.
He probably has anywhere between 300-500.000 € worth of rifles.
And bayonets, magazines, optics, bipods, MGs...
I thought I was in wonderland and so I told him.
When I asked him if I could drive back on Saturday to pick up the rifle and pay, he just told me to fill the papers and take it. I could pay through my bank in the coming days.
I was surprised and said that he really believes in people, so he told me that someone who knows every rifle he’s got there and has a license could only be one of his tribe, and that he does not doubt he’ll get paid.
This is another great aspect of this passion. Most people are just great folks!
Now to my new baby:
Great bore! Great muzzle! Great trigger!
In general the conditions are very good and the diopter works flawlessly.
The only things not perfect are the upper front hanguard, which is cracked and has an old repair which is not holding anymore (no problem, my neighbour is a carpenter specialised in restorations) and the original ladder sight is missing (but to be found in shops).
I’m not really able to judge if everything is completely coherent, but the rifle satisfies the shooter in me instinctively.
Next month its Yankee sibling!
Well...no, here she isn’t.
I can’t seem to be able to attach the pictures...
Will try again tomorrow.

That all sounds great. Best of luck with your new Toy. The only shortcoming is the original rear sight was numbered to the receiver. If that doesn't matter to you then it doesn't matter at all! Get those pictures up and a range report when you can.
