values?
Thanks to Jim for posting my pics. I don't understand why they wouldn't appear when I did it.
Any idea on value (in USA) of such a rifle? The gun shop that has it generally has eclectic stuff, but pretty high prices, so I suspect it may be overpriced (at $600)
I understand there are original-chambered ones that require the old brass cases or ones made from .303 British and some that have had the chamber reamed for modern plastic hulled /410 shells. I haven't checked it yet, but if this one has the original chamber and I buy it, would I be decreasing its value significantly if I reamed the chamber for modern .410?

Thanks for posting the pictures - It looks to be a No1 Mk3 rather than a No1 Mk2.
I've never heard of a No1 Mk2 'in captivity', it's maybe just something that exists in the wild.
Mine are not the best, but they are not too bad. I can think of lots of Enfields I'd rather have but instead of constantly striving for more, sometimes it's good to be satisfied with what one has...

I have an Enfield that has not been converted to modern .410. I believe collector value is greater if not converted. I bought a small pack(10 rounds) just to have some. I could have gotten a case at a shop in ($60) Fayetteville NC a couple of years ago there were several hundred rounds in a case. I did not plan to shoot that much. I still have not shot my .410.

Quite a bit overpriced. $400 is about right. Maybe more like $350 before taxes.
You can buy all you want on gunbroker for $400 plus shipping.

Its great when you turn up at a clay-pigeon shoot and they say "you cannot shoot clays with a rifle" and you reply "watch me".
25-30 yards with No6 shot is about the limit.

I have had a bunch of these. Maybe coincidental, but the ones made after 1948 all have had chambers that fit 3" shotgun cartridges.

I think Springfield Sporters imported the vast majority of the ones here in the USA post 1986. They offered them with both the original chambers and reamed for 3" .410 Gauge shells which was done in house after import.
Charlie, Do you have definitive proof that they were ALL chambered for standard 3" shells post 1948?

It's a bit like pulling teeth but did anyone else get the joke in thread 8 where I referred to a magicians wand for 'cunning stunts' and the .410 shot for 'stunning xunts'? Oh well......., I tried !
