NIB Winchester M1 carbine for presentation.....

My first item that I would like more info on, thoughts etc on is this NIB Winchester M1 carbine. Ser # 5645911 it came to me in a plain, typical, unmarked brown box, designed for a carbine. It has all the accessorories that would come with a carbine, 4 mags, oiler, grease, rubber mag caps, cleaning Rod and brush. All new and wrapped with IBM Department of the Army punch cards. The cards describe the item number, qnty and marked Export.

As you can see in the photos, it is built as an early carbine. Flip rear sight, no bayonet lug, no barrel date but does have the W proof . There is no P on the inside of the pistol grip but it does have B on top of the pistol grip. It has a deep WRA over GHD and the ordnance stamp. There is a B on the rear sight and a C on the trigger guard.

So the theory I received when I purchased it was, due to the high serial number and early parts and the export punch cards, it was built in the early 50's from parts by Winchester for someone in England. Either for a Musem or high ranking official. Like I said, this was a theory. What's yours?

Other then some handling marks it is MINT and I believe unfired. It comes with 4 mags, 2 unwrapped but new, code SW. The other two are wrapped with export cards on them. I have not taken the gun apart.

The "Theory" you received? It's been built up all right, but what proof do you have it was done in the '50s? Any paperwork? What do the punch card say? They could also be added any time to the group. There are guys building these "New" carbines every day out of early parts...

I hear you, maybe I should have used "opinion" rather then theory. The cards are not dated , but I was told that is when they become wide spread used. It is what it is.. I bought it from a WWII enthusiast for the price of a used M1. He claimed to own it for many years. I owned it for a couple, it doesn't make sense for someone to make a nib Winchester carbine then sell it at what I paid, IMHO.

What should I be looking for? I read the post on the paratrooper carbine on GB and how people pointed out the problems, that is what I am looking for. I do not want to advertise/sell if it's wrong.

I'm not a carbine expert, but do know something about Federal Stock # (FSN).
The rod package has what appears as a FSN starting w/ 1005.
1005 is small arms related.
There is what appears to be eleven (11) digits following- 654-4045-1XXX.
FSN's were used between about '55 and '74.
