AIA 7.62 x 39 Value in USA
Hello all,
I hate posting these types of "what is it worth" quesitons, but I have not seen an AIA Rifle sell here in the USA for many years and I have the opportunity to acquire one.
I live here in Southern CA and I am going to look at an AIA rifle in 7.62 x 39 tomorrow. I passed on this rifle many years ago when it was new, but tracked down the purchaser. These rifles will most likely never be imported again and this is a chance to add another "Enfield" variation to the collection.
The "can't get one imported anymore" story seems to add $$$$ to the price. Will see rifle for the first time in about 3 years tomorrow and owner states that it is in great shape. Asking price is $750 which seems a bit steep for me.
Any idea on value would be appreciated.
Thank you,
Brian

Well, in AU they are around $1000-1100 retail from memory. We do tend to find stuff made in AU goes cheaper in the US though.
Regardless, if it is in great condition I would think $750 is a good starting point. The one I handled was solid and well built.

Thanks for the input. I appreciate it. I purchased the rifle yesterday. Paid $800 for the rifle and about 15 magazines. It appears that the rifle may have come with one or two mags as two of them are parked and seem to match the rifle.
The rifle appears to be in unfired condition and is parkerized. It is the second model made in 2002. Has the rear flip sight and some beautiful wood with the Monte Carlo butt and a grooved forend and handguard. Must wait the 10 days to pick up. Will upload some pictures. Very hard to find over here as very few made it into the US.
Any idea if the rifle came with any accesories? I see on the AIA web site that there are slings, etc available.
Thank you,
Brian

I will ask around for you. I didn't hear my friend mention that he got anything with his other than just the rifle itself.
I used to think they were a bit expensive until I saw how much an unfired No4 in 303 will go for. Now I think they are priced approipriately. I think you did well.
I'll get back to you with anything I can find out.

Gander Mountain stores in the US still have new 7.62/39 rifles on the shelf for $700 if I remember correctly. If you can find one of their stores, they have a chain wide data base that can find one for you. I saw one for sale last week in Flint Mi.

Just as a reference, Wolverine Supplies in Canada currently has a handful of them in stock and sells them for $777.

As mentioned here in Canada $777 and you got it for $800 with 15 mags? Holy mackerel you almost got it for free if you consider the price of a mag,
Why use a 50 pound bomb when a 500 pound bomb will do?

I bought my gun from Gander Mountain and it came with a box full of extras. Wood cheek piece, leather sling, green canvas carrying case, scope mount, extra magazine.

I agree with breakyd. My rifle came with all those parts. Sling was supposedly made from water buffalo. Very thick. I paid $699 for mine at Gander Mountain several years ago. Mine is in 7.62 by 39 also.
It is very accurate but a bear to carry. I found the 7.62 by 39 to be a moderate range cartridge. Magazines are hard to place in the rifle. I had to remove some of parker finish to get them to insert.
With 15 mags, you got a hell of a deal!
There is a thought that anywhere from 50 to 400 rifles exist in the US. Nobody seems to know the correct number. Gander Mountain brought them in or bought them off a wholesaler.
