Cheap .30-06 Springfield Ammo
This may be a stupid question, but where can I find the cheapest surplus .30-06 ammunition.
The CMP sells it for $0.49 per round, but I am not a member of a CMP affiliated organization so that's out of the question.
I found another online site for about $0.68 per round.
Any suggestions?
Jon

Cheap .30-'06 is a thing of the past. You will have to reload to get it to fair price. But, cheap, no.

Well what is the lowest price you guys have seen? Also, what does it cost to get all the equipment required for reloading? About what does it cost per round with reloading yourself?

You spend alot up front to reload. A Lee Challenger press kit will go for $110-120 to get you rolling. 50 pieces of brass $25 X however many you want to load for. Garands are hungry so you may need 250 pieces of brass to start. Dies are $30. 250 bullets are $70+. One pound of H4895 is $30. Primers are $30-35. Calipers $20-30. Garands are hard on brass so you won't get as much life out of them as with a bolt action. Hornady load book is $25-30, it has a Garand specific data table. Of course that doesn't include the cost of a bench to do all this. A tumbler kit is $75 to clean your brass. It is cheaper than factory for sure, you may save 50% but it just comes down to how much time you have to spend doing this. You need to educate yourself very well before trying because there are cosequences for making mistakes, sometimes serious ones. Sorry about my mistake I thought I was in the Garand forum. However it still all applies except you can get a little longer case life.

CMP price is about as low as you'll find it.

Thanks everyone. I really don't have time to reload my own ammo, let alone shoot it. Didn't know about the GCA, so thanks!
I haven't been shooting for a year and a half now =[ I just want something that is fairly cheap so I can try out my new 03A3. I still have to take pictures as well. Only part I need is the rear site assembly and it is 100% correct and "R" marked!!!

By judiciously shopping for components, costs are 18¢ for a 168 gr match bullet (17¢ for a M2 ball bullet); 4¢ for a primer & 14¢ for powder or 36¢/round (all based on bulk prices & include an allowance for shipping & HAZMAT fee). The CMP ammo at 52.5¢/round (includes shipping) thus allows 16.5¢/round for "investment" in reloading tools. If you load 100 rounds, you "earn" or "save" $16.50; 1000 rounds, $165, etc. If your basic loading set up costs $250, then you must reload about 1500 rounds before you break even. If you compare to retail prices where ammo is $1 - $1.25/round (or more), your break even point is much lower. Reloading economics does not account for the value of your time nor other stuff like a bench, etc. so these must be considered as well.

jburg,
What you probably have found is the Iranian 30-06 ammo? Many threads... on many boards have discussed this ammo, and comparied it the CMP ammo.
Reloading is an option... something that I don't do....
And yes... the Iranian stuff shoots fine!
