New Addition To Family
Today I got my first US Remington Model 1903. Now the learning curve will begin. I am the newest when it comes to knowing about these rifles. I am posting some pictures and a small amount of info. I read on the rifle. It is a US Remington Model !903, the seller said the barrel might have been changed. On the barrel at the muzzle is an SA 7-44 with Flaming Bomb. Under the palm on the stock is a capital P. It looks like the receiver is too bright. The trigger has grooves in it. It looks like a 2 groove barrel. The serial is 3046074. It came with a Lyman 48c aperture sight with target knobs. It mounts on the right side. Any and all help will be appreciated and maybe a book or two I should start reading. Thanks in advance for the look.
I am a 30-06 shooter and would like to shoot this rifle not make it a safe queen.

As the barrel and stock has been replaced and the receiver has been drilled and tapped for the rear sight, it has little collector value. No reason you shouldn't shoot it all you want!
People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.

Nice shooter
Entry Level, That will make a fun target rifle and give you something to research and learn about. As Rick states it is not a "collector" level rifle. However it has many desirable features for the shooter. The quality and safe Remington receiver, C stock and Lyman 48 caught my eye. One good book on the subject is The Springfield 1903 Rifles by Brophy. Salt Flat

It's beautiful. That's for sure. I love the stock. I know it's not original, but it's very nice. Seems like it was set up for competition, with that rear sight and C stock.

Range Day for New Addition, Successfully installed Lyman sight fits tight and produces good picture. The installed receiver sight needs to be elevated so it doesn't hinder Lyman picture. Loaded some 168 SMK's and dialed it in. Was a quick trip to range since work this evening but will take pictures this weekend. If I zero at 200 yards I could leave the other sight in lowered position. The action is very smooth and the rifle holds well, comfortable to shoot. I am selecting reading matter now since I am less than novice with Springfields. Thanks for the encouragement.

Well, how were your groups?????? It sounds like you had a good time with an old friend. That is sweet.

I fired a total of ten shots, 4 on steel to find out how clicks worked on Lyman, then 1 to find paper then 5 for grins. Three were touching north of center in 9 ring 1x and a flyer 2 o'clock in 8 ring. Very skinny sight blade and fuzzy eyes. It will get better. I would like to find a sling for the rifle also.
Sunday I will have time to shoot and take pictures. More to follow.

Looking forward to seeing the pics and hearing more. Yeah, the front sight blade. I haven't shot my 03A3 lately, but I know that sometimes focusing on that for a while gets to me. One time I had the opportunity to shoot at 600 yards and I got on paper. But after about 40 rounds my eyes were bugging out on me an watering. I'm not sure if it was just because it was so far, or that sight blade. It does make for good groups though, imho, if your eyes can handle it.

Those front blades sights sure are skinny aren't they?
You'll get use to them.

Great lookng shooter, and just so you know all 03 barrels are 4 groove tubes, 2 groove barrels are a 03a3 thing.
