Two of the best references are:
Clark Campbell's "The '03 Springfield Era" (2004 edition) and
Peter Senich's "The USMC Scout Sniper in WW2 and Korea"
This particular rifle is difficult to authenticate so use extreme caution before laying out big $$ for a purported original. As an example, a couple of weeks ago there were not less than THREE of these at the Allentown gun show! Highly unlikely when the total made would have been fewer than 1000.

Another good book is the Complete Book on US Sniping, also by Senich. I have all of the Springfield books, but that and the USMC Scout Sniper book are the best for that variation.
