    M48A?

I recently picked up a selection of milsurp and other firearms from an estate auction....a pool table full to be precise. Had to silent bid the guns in lot by table. The estate had sorted the guns odd....high grade/nice rifles on a table as a single lot....nice shotguns a separate lot...nice handguns etc. The pool table had scratch and dents...rusty guns cheap grade guns and milsurps from .22 rifles to 12ga shotguns....I just thought it a weird way to sell out a collection.

Anyhow...I've been cleaning and inspecting my 'haul' of guns. The Yugoicon M48A is a 'B' pattern with sheet metal mag box/floorplate milled rear band and welded sheet metal front band. Seems to be a nice matching # Yugo. My question concerns the bolt serial #. The bolt has a normal size font three digit number on the bottom side of the handle. Then it has the last 3 digits of serial number(that matches) stamped small on the bolt root top flat. I thought the M48 bolts had the serial numbers stamped on top the handle between the bolt root and knob. Does my bolt sound like a re-numbered bolt?

    Thanx HT

Mine is serial numbered between the root and the knob on the top curved portion.

That sounds like an interesting auction where you could get a bargain on a lot of guns. They would NEVER sell them that way here. For one thing, you'll never get the max money out of them. One guy might want a certain gun on a table but not the others and so on with other fellows but none are likely to calculate the value of the whole table and spend that much just to get the one they want. Did this auction occur in an area where guns are not a big part of the local culture?

Oklahoma....everybody has guns here. Usually they just auction them off one gun at a time or I've seen them auctioned off one gun at a time online.....or a FFL dealer buys the whole lot and sells them at online auction or in store. I know the FFL in charge of this deal and asked about it....his reply was that this was just what was going to happen. I was invited to inspect and bid. Not just a huge number of firearms involved.....I got the impression the collection owner(big Weatherby fan) did not want his firearms sold to just any Tom Dick or Harry....

Not a bargain....didn't get to keep the pool table.

Not quite sure what to make of the Yugoicon bolt numbering....nice bolt...nice rifle...strange bolt numbering

I think/wonder if the bolt serial number on the bolt root might be an importer stamped number. This M48A import stamp is 'Intrac Knox Tn 8mm Yugo'.....same size tiny font as the bolt matching serial number

What you have is consistent with what is on my Matching M48 and M48A I've attached a picture.

Not quite how my M48 bolt is numbered/stamped.....my 'matching number' is parallel to the bolt body on the bolt root top flat....the font is quite small like the import stamp on the barrel. The bolt does have a normal size three digit number on the bottom curve like pictured and same/similar proofs as pic of above of the M48 bolt.

No numbers on the top curve of the bolt handle.....I looked it over close to see if perhaps a number had been scrubbed off the bolt handle...but no I see no sign of that. In my mind's eye...I believe the tiny matching 3 digits # got stamped in Tennessee to match an un-numbered bolt to the rifle. Same size font as the import stamp...I compared/measured the 8 in the import stamp(8mm) and it is consistent in size/style of font to the numbers on top the bolt root flat....about half-size numbers compared to the factory numbers

Okay, I guess I misunderstood what you wrote on your initial post --- Funny sounds like a rifle you should sell to me can't have mismatched rifles running around, I can hide it in my safe for you.

Sorry...I need to re-develop my pic posting skills....They say pics are worth a thousand words. I quit putting pics online a number of years back when I posted some handgun pics on a particular forum and the pics were appropriated by a low-life and my pics were used trying to sell the pistol on several online formats...it was interesting!

    Probably safer now...
