I really don’t know much. They have some interesting weapons in Central and South Americaicon. You never know what you will see there.

In Mexico for instance, the army looks like the US army in the '80's and the navy had Czechicon weapons...the air force had HK rifles, looked like '91's. Quite the mix. The Police and armored car guards were something else too...

Sounds like a logistical nightmare for the stores people Jim...

Its the way India seems to run things too, a bit of everything from everyone, availability in general must be poor.

Yes, not ammo so much but resupply of mags, parts...they all had correct pouches too. So there would be that too.

The drug cartels have the most modern guns. They will pay ten times going price here for FN Five-seveN pistols.

Here is a factory original SAR (i.e., "Glilon") model that appears to be of the same or very close era of manufacture. This gun was manufactured in the summer of 1986.

Though made for the export market as indicated by the Arabic markings, the physical features denote approximately the same specific time frame of Galil evolutionary design progress. In fact, it appears that there are no discernible differences in them.

I would therefore hazard a guess that your IDF line model was likely of the same general vintage of manufacture date, mid-1980's.

We used to have a couple of IMI IDF issued examples at Warminster and I liked them. I used to end a small talk about them to the class with the words '.........if it's good enough for the Israelis, who know a bit about having their backs against the sea, then it's good enough for anyone.....'

They were just so heavy and pointy. Then and now I still prefer AKs and ARs.

Well, if you've ever tried to butt stroke someone who's sky high on meth with an M4 carbine you might alter your opinion. Lightweight is good for carry, but not always desirable in the full measure of opportunity of uses.

Interesting to me, your thoughts on "accuracy" of the Galils as I've found them to be extremely capable shooters at any normal distance. The inherent rigidity of the milled receiver barrel mounting is far and away preferable to the very noticeable flexing of all the stamped receiver AK variants.....often the root cause of complaints of lower "accuracy" with them despite most having very good barrel tubes.

Never found the Galils or Glilons to be very accurate...even the ratty M16A1s I had shot tighter groups. I always assumed it was due to the location of the rear sights on the top cover.
