Not a Bren Sling?
I contacted this vendor on eBay to ask how long his sling was and the reply was that it was 78"/79" long. I replied that it was too long to be a Bren sling and must be for something else at 78" long. I was then accused of being an "eBay expert" for my troubles. It would be helpful to people if the vendor put the length of the sling in the listing.

Maybe they're using metric inches. Just a thought.
Some do, some don't; some will, some won't; I might ...

I wouldn't worry about the scalding of someone you'll never speak to again most likely, and I think you're right about it. There's a lot of sling there. You'll only find out if you take hold and measure it yourself.

I was trying to figure out what it could have been for @ 78" long?

Remember there was a bracket of measurement...between this and that. From about this long to that long. If you look in the book it's sort of open. Too, remember when washing them it matters how you DRY them, natural cool or warm air is different from being in the dryer on hi heat with combat clothing or coveralls. They shrink and stretch... I think it'd Bren, just never mind the reply this guy sent. There's a lot of sling there.

Wow, I read the 78’/79” as 78 foot to start with.
There’s a well known Militaria dealer currently selling a Bren Mk 1 magazine that is in fact not. I thought briefly about emailing him but decided I would likely be ignored or told “how would you know”.
It’s £125 for a £5 mag, description says it all.
This is an early production Bren gun MKI magazine. The standard MKI Bren magazine was issued and fitted to all Bren's that saw service with BEF (British Expeditionary Force) in 1939-1940 whilst in France. It was intended to hold 30 rounds, but in reality to prolong spring life only 28 rounds were loaded. This shortcoming was realised after the battle of Dunkirk the MKI magazine was redesigned and then superseded by the MK1*. The MKI magazine has a distinctive folded seams on the front and spine of the magazine. The makers mark is "M/78" Elkington & Co Birmingham.

The thing is that I have the length of Bren slings @ around about 54" plus or minus an inch or two and there is a big difference between 54" and 78".

Yes, he measured wrong and would never admit it. I wouldn't worry about it. Unless you want to buy it...?

Yes, that was my intention to buy it but I thought that I had better just check that it wasn't a rifle sling or something else first.
