Does someone know what the 1/4" lack of finish at end of muzzle indicates ?

Don't know what the lack of finish indicates but SHOOT IT and find out how it performs.

It looks pretty uniform and not dinged up in the crown area.

Even ones worn down a lot worse perform well.

May be just fine and you night be happy as a clam.

It's been re-crowned. That being said, the 1/4" lack of finish could be from the tool used to re-crown it.

Looks like the crown was touched up on a lathe; the ring is from a steady rest.

That's pretty much what I thought. At first I thought it was from a lathe, maybe to remove an import mark, but I didn't see any trace of an import mark. This is not a CMPicon rifle. It is a Gap Logo IHC I got at a gun show. I had noticed that loss of finish but the price was right so I didn't really care at the time, but now I am wondering about it.
Other than the crown issue this is a nice 4.6 mil. Gap logo IHC. It was correct when I got it except for the stock, a HRA trigger group, HRA Gas Cyl lock screw and a WW2 Gas cyl. lock. Except for the stock, I have replaced these parts with correct IHC. The stock is a nice solid walnut but not IHC and no markings. You can just about make out that it had a circle proof at one time, but barely.
I was thinking about selling it and wondering how much does the recrown reduce the overall value. I also want to describe it fairly.
