A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. It only holds the clip if there are rounds in it. The clip will pass through on it's own, that is normal. This allows you to take a full or partially filled clip out of the top of the rifle rather than cycle through all the rounds using the bolt.

The release or hold is at the top of the clip. When the clip is empty, it just falls out the bottom. When it has a cartridge in it, the lifter is holding the clip and cartridge in and up against the release. When you press the release, it allows the lifter to lift the entire loaded clip up out of the magazine.
