Type 99 Saved From Bubba- Late War

Gents,
I grabbed another another type 99. Once again, bubba got this one. I am missing the mag spring, mag follower. Fore arm, upper handguard. Sling/ swivel and bayonet lug.

I would appreciate some pointers on what I am looking for on the bayo lug/ end cap, as in what it should look like.





The stock is covered in a poly finish or something shiny...





Although the stock is "shiny", they didn't NOT heavily sand. As I have a cartouche or two!

The bolt matches itself, but not the rifle.

I am unable to track the Arsenal, as my computer is wonky... and won't let me open many websites...
But here is something curious... Import marks?? Opinions and comments please!





Wood work is easy, so I don't see a hard repair.

Between $50.00 and $70.00! LOL!

I figured that the stock was worth something (when I repair the duffel cut)... the bolt is worth something....
Although most people don't give more than $100.00 for ANY ground Arisaka... in ANY condition.

I would just claim this was a duffel cut rifle that was taken apart... but somebody went back and polished the barrel (they tried a mirror finish?!?!?!). Luckily this will be covered by wood.

The.... MC.... CAM... Y..... has me curious.

I don't believe that stock is duffle bag cut. The late war stocks were 2 piece. 3 pieces if you count the handguard. I don't think that's the proper stock for that rifle. It appears to be a late war stock on a mid war rifle. It could be a last ditch made up out of parts. The bolt and stock are definately late war. But, the rest of the rifle appears to be mid war with standard rear sight w/o AA arms and no "pinned" front band on the barrel.

I think you are correct, regarding the 2/3pc stock setup. The cut is VERY old... and precise... 1 of those 2, Bubba has a hard time with... I was hoping for some assembly number or SN on the wood, but no dice (that would match the receiver). However, it was a good opportunity to do a photo bomb of the rifle...

Yep, That's what it looks like. Here is a pic of what that stock would look like on a late war model. You might be better off seeing if you can find someone with a mid war stock that needs a late war stock and work a trade.

Can't say of the stock is correct or not. It matches the rough safety but not the ladder sight or front sight guards. If it is a series 7, it could have a mix of all of these and still be correct. Does the barrel have a place for a pin for the front barrel band? Late war two piece stocks had the barrel band pinned to the barrel. That would be the best indication of whether the stock is correct or not.

No go on the pin location under the barrel. All smooth there. Therefore, I think you are correct (confirmed) on it being a different type of stock needed.

Now I am on the hunt for parts! I guess, including the stock! LOL!!

Midmich, I believe the series mark on your rifle is for the 6th series. For reference I have a series 6 serial 56xxx barrelled action, The receiver and all bolt parts match. It has no ears on the front sight and the rear sight is the early style but without AA wings. The bolt has the late style simpler cylindrically shaped bolt knob. The safety is the early style with knurling on the back. The barrel appears to be original with no marks from removal or tampering and does not have the slot for the late style front band pin. . FWIW---Salt Flat
