Its to do with the shape of the blade, Most common ( I,m aware of) is the Spanish Bolo Bayonet , but other Bolo bayonets come in all shapes and size,s, see link below,

The pommel and cross guard along with the scabbard were blued. The blade has been in the white on all examples I've ever seen.

Interesting bayonet in that it is a nice looking one but also one that doesn't appear to be the least bit collectible. The market is flooded with them and prices are typically lower than all but the Britishicon spike bayonets. Makes it an interesting one to experiment with. Originals will have wood grips, refurbished ones plastic. I have one that someone cut the muzzle ring off of that I'm converting into a knife. Waiting to get the hole in the handle welded shut to polish it up.

The Bolo Bayonet was manufactured by Springfield Armory. all metal was polished bright. The information is on page 20 of the book "American Military Bayonets of the 20th Century by Gary M Cunningham" is a great book for information on US bayonets.

The 1941 Bolo Bayonet was made in Spain, probably by Toledo, not in the US by Springfield.
