A Winchester Model 1907 SLR, until someone on the Marlin Forum posted about it. Looked on GB and there are a few there, running around $450 - $900. Pretty low prices IMO. Kinda looks like a baby BAR. Wonder if if could be rebarreled...

I had the one in .351 and changed it to 9mm. I ran in the chamber reamer and lightened the slide assembly with holes. I used a P38 mag with a steel block welded on the back to give it enough back end and modified it to take the mag catch. It ate anything you put through it and it was too bad it wasn't auto or had a drum... The original cartridge can be made from .357 mag I think...

Rifle is a Winchester Model 1907 Self-Loading. It was originally chambered for the .351 Self-Loading cartridge firing a 180 grain bullet @ 1850 fps. Cartridge has probably been discontinued for a long time. As I remember it is "blow back" (unlocked ) breech action.

These have been around a long time, the first models were the 1905 chambered in 32 WSL and 35 WSL, then the 1907 which you have pictured in 351 cal, last is the Model 1910 in 401 WSL.

France ordered the Model 1907 and some Model 1910 rifles during WW1, some Model 1907 rifle were converted to full auto and delivered to France on the Salonika Front Some French Model 1907 rifles had a bayonet too. France manufactured both 401 and 351 cartridges. France also developed the 8mm Ribeyrolle by necking down the 351 case.

American gangsters and law enforcement also used the Model 1907 during the 1930's,
Gangsters also converted them to full auto.

Cinders, you are correct. As a matter of fact, the Winchester 32 Self Loading cartridge was the cartridge that developed into the 30 M1 Carbine cartridge. Very early examples of the 30 M1 carbine cartridge used the
Winchester headstamp bunter 32 WSL, these are quite rare. You can use 30 M1 carbine to make 32 WSL. I make 35 WSL from 38 Special brass, just turn off the rim and cut a nice extractor groove (just like the old
38 AMU rimless for the Colt NM and S&W Model 52).

Jim, how much of a job was your conversion? I really like the looks of these rifles but wouldn't consider buying one if limited to "unobtanium" ammo. The 9mm is super cheap right now too. I looked at some take-down vids on Youtube, doesn't look too bad, except the guy drifted out the front sight to remove the bolt. Which would make for a new sighting in every time...

The drilling out of the slide took a bit, I just wanted to remove weight. Don't know how much NEEDS to be removed, maybe try it as is to start. The mag was just a fiddle and the chamber reaming wasn't bad. I think I removed the barrel and masked off the reamer with masking tape to equal the fit into a Browning Hi Power barrel. The cartridge stands out the same distance after. I didn't even use a headspace gauge after. No need. It seems to me there was a country used them as 9mm...here's a thread you should read. Might give food for thought.
