H&R carbine rear sight
I have an H&R carbine that has sat in the safe for many years. I recently got interested in single shot BP matches that are held here in Michigan, and the Trap door is one of the favorites.
I pulled my carbine out, and I remember that the rear sight looks like a replacement. It is a folding buckhorn type with two screws on either side of the notch which you loosen to adjust for elevation.
Since the matches are at 50 and 100 yards, I am going to be welding up the front sight to allow for the shorter ranges, but I was wondering if the rear sight was what HR put on them, or if it was replaced? Anyone know what they looked like?

Your rear sight does not sound like one that H&R installed on that line of guns. They eventually used several types of sights, but it is hard to tell if it is original. It sounds like a Lyman sight. I have two H&R Huntsman ML-TD rifles and they have different rear sights. Since you have a dovetail in the barrel, install any sight that works.
