A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. McNamara's middle name was "Strange" -- he was a whiz kid from Ford who thought he was the smartest man on earth.

People are strange when you're a stranger
Faces look ugly when you're alone
Women seem wicked when you're unwanted
Streets are uneven when you're down

    When you're strange
Faces come out of the rain
    When you're strange
    No one remembers your name
    When you're strange
    When you're strange
    When you're strange

I can't forget McNamara's saga of cost control with the M-16 by the use of existing powder rather than the rifle's spec and by skipping plating the chamber. Not very keen, in the long run.

Only a professional bureaucrat would think he (or she) knows better than either those engineering a problem or facing the front line...

The caption to this photo should be, "I will have this situation over by Christmas." LOL PS-- "I did not say what year!"
