IMR 4064 in AR Loads ? ? ?

Anyone try or use IMR 4064 in the AR ?

Got some sitting around thought about trying a load in the AR with 77 gr
bullet, would like to hear anyone's experiences.

very accurate (like almost everything else in .223). you may wish to weigh charges for best results if you don't have a tubular-grained powder friendly measure.

I had loaded 4064 for sometime in .223. It worked fine, but due to the coarse powder, it would occasionally bridge in the neck of the case. It was noticeable and just a bit of a mess to clean up. However I read so much about varget, I tried it and did switch to varget. Varget is more of a flake powder and I have had no problems with bridging in the neck of the case.

I can assure you that Varget is NOT a "flake" powder. Not even close. It is an EXTRUDED powder albeit a smaller "grained" or "kernald" powder than some others like 4064/4895

whats bridging in the neck ?

never heard this term before.

My apologies, I should have said a finer cut powder them 4064.

4064 would occasionally not flow through the neck into the case and would back up - that is what I met by bridging.
