It is a pity it was sporterised but it is a 1913! You must be rather pleased with yourself.

Lithgow produced for the Fiscal year to 1913 only 40 MkIII's, yours is in this batch from 1913 - 1914 ~ 4,760 MkIII's produced.

It would be almost impossible to get it back to its 1913 trim you could bring it back to a semblance of its former self but if your going to try and go genuine year correct then you will face two hurdles availability of 1913 parts and the rather hefty price tag attached to the said parts but good for you getting an early production low serial No. Lithgow.

I see just recently on that site a Mag Cut Off Lithgow marked went for $122/Au +P&H

There is no such thing as a factory issued correct 1913 rifle they just don't exist. It has been in two world wars plus other scraps been through in field repair, then FTR after each war it is lucky to have just survived. If you rebuild it to military specs as it should be the only thing missing will be the Stamps showing its history. Just use Lithgow parts. If you do nothing you still have a rare sporter. The rebuild should be to Mk3* spec not Mk3.

Hi all i intend on restoring it back to as close to original as possible i am misssing a nose cap which i have found in canada un stamped Lithgow produced , also a complete new manufactures stock for volley sights and magazine cut off , i have the front band period correct with star . I intend to do the same with my 14 lithgow eventually serial number X5669 ( went through EFD in ww1 for rebuild 10% parts replaced ie sight base sights and stock)everything else is original. I have many relatives FIGHT IN WW1 /2 ,KOREA/VIETNAM.very proud of my Aussie heritage and roots thank god retirement is hoping to be back home

Have a good look at the state regulations for firearms where you intend to spend your retirement before you come back to Aussie bloke there are some serious moves afoot by the govt across the whole of Australia to castrate the lot of us legal firearm owners as what you have collected over there you may find almost impossible to bring into this country.
Western Australia where I live (born here) is the toughest & most expensive place to either get a firearm or an additional firearm.

I live 26 klms south of Bunbury so 200 K's away, I grew up in Perth late 1950's-1977 when I packed my bags and said goodbye to all of that went back for 2 years working 2009- 2011 up there and well it is just a hole, early 1960's to say 1972 Perth was a real treat slept with front doors open keys in your car nary a care in the world for a young chap then from about 73 onward things changed for the worst. My only other sister still lives there I do not know how she can put up with the rat race.
