    Vintage Hunter,
Me the tree hugger ?... I thought it was you and your fellow hunters [snipers] who climb the trees and "hug them" in your deer stands with your hi-powered modern weapon and all dressed out in your Rambo outfit waiting on some poor dumb animal looking for food to come by, and IMO it's not the food rather then the stuffed head and antlers to hang in your man cave wall to make you feel like a real outdoorsman.

Why not go hunting for bear with an antique cap and ball weapon and a hunting knife,
now that's a real hunter, plus the bear is part of the pig family and is very good when cooked on an outdoor grill with the right BBQ sauce.

You win, you eat the bear, you lose, the bear eats you, now how can that be more fair ?
Nothing personnel, I feel this way about all deer hunters and tree huggers like you .

P.E.T.A members have their own forums where they can compare grass with pine needle soup recipes. On this thread we like to see DEAD bloodied deer on VH's tailgate,, and did you see the hand cannon jmoore has? I'm pretty sure that's his rabbit gun!!!...

Ok so you don't like hunters, fine. To each his own. You've had your say and I had mine so as far as I'm concerned that makes us even. Now you're getting personal so do us all a big favor, keep your feelings to yourself and let drop before it gets out of hand.

Personally I no longer hunt and haven't for years, absolutely no desire and HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO PROBLEM WITH PEOPLE WHO DO HUNT!

It is a choice and the cull of the herd is a key factor in conservation.

Thanks for your posts vintage hunter!
Why use a 50 pound bomb when a 500 pound bomb will do?

So it's snipers you don't like? Fair enough.

I've hunted about 3 times ever from a tree stand. And if you look at the earlier part of the thread I was hunting on my hind legs with a 1860 vintage muzzleloader, which you deem acceptable. Have never mounted a head or antlers. So I'm good there. We have bear so, that's also good on your list.

So, aside from the one "long range" kill of a deer that happened to have lotso spiky bits which aren't much good to eat, I'm on your "OK" list?
And unless you have chlorophyll in your veins, you live on the death of other living things. Just something to ponder.

ETA: I only remember seeing one "Rambo" movie. IIRC, he wore a Vietnam era USGI field jacket or similar. Maybe a bandanna? Unfortunately, I was wearing only a set of ex-USAF coveralls, a fedora and a fluorescent vest whilst creeping about in the rain yesterday. No Rambo prize for me, very sad. Saw five deer, three of which seemed to be hunting me as they sneakily followed me back to the truck.

The little 1.5x ACOG passed the rain test with some inner tube lens hoods but the lack of magnification in the more open areas is proving a bother. Hard to ID sex past 100yds for spikes and such.

Note the 60 degree safety and Ranier Arms no foward assist flattop upper. Barrel is an old M16icon surplus unit.

Have never seen such activity in open areas before! Have always felt most comfy in spots where you can barely see 50yds. More learning, but happy to have company this year.

Would like to get the K98kicon with the Zf41 in the field. But still missing some small bits, mostly the elevation clicker spring and screws. Also, finding hard to give up a day in the woods to check zero on another rifle. No.4 Mk.I(T) for instance. Or even the Type 99 mit 4x scope, but that's definitely an "all day" deal if it needs tweaking!

Thanks Badger, We needed that, I will have to admit that some times my mouth out runs what little brain I have left,.... BTW, I do love baby back rib's and any other meat cooked on the grill.
And the best of lluck to all you deer hunters, and disregard all that I said. I guess I should stay on the Harley forum where I belong.

Drug out the Type 99 and some modern gear to zero, including an M39 EMR clone that I'd about forgotten! Maybe this is the year that the Japaneseicon rifle starts doing it's bit. Had a No.4(T) out, but it's been in the woods a good bit more, so it'll have to wait a bit.

Old photo, but nothing's changed except the venue.

Sure, it looks fancy and all, but the Japanese rifle is better for toting, and in tight spots is surely more "wieldy".

Will try and field both, but it's not up to me as to which might fill the freezer.

I always felt it was a lot more sporting to go out into their natural habitat than it is to go into the grocery store.

I haven't even been out yet. Doubt I'll be taking a milsurp this year when I do. Open sights and me just don't get along. And they just won't legalize semi-autos for deer. I have a nice AR set-up but it's good for just target practice in PA.

Nothing new to report, haven't been hunting in a week. Days are getting so short now there isn't time after work and I've used up what little day light that was left in the attempt to zero a No.4T. It's been a miserable failure so far. Think it's too late when I get started and I'm bone tired to the point I can't see straight on top of it. It's raining now so that will put a halt to the cotton picking festivities for a couple days, that'll give me the chance to recharge my batteries and try it again.
