    No4T S/N survey?

G'day gents and Merry Xmas to all,

Can anybody advise me as to whether there exists a No4T serial number survey operating within any of the various surplus forums? I have just acquired a 1944 BSA No4T and would happily contribute my details if one exists.

    Cheers, Tiki.

Tell me the serial number of the telescope and I'll tell you if I have it recorded or anything close to it.

    public

I've not come across a public list, but I know of one well known individual that has been keeping a private list for a book one day. I'm hesitant to out him; if he wants and reads this, perhaps he will PM you.

I only hope that this person makes it known before he does publish because I have some important information that I have kept very close to my chest. Don't forget what they say about writing books. The first person to read your book IMMEDIATELY known more than you do. Because he then knows EVERYTHING you've written PLUS the tiny bit he knew before.

And guess what else..............., they make sure that you and the rest of the world know so too! Not that it's happened to me to any great extent

Perhaps a little off subject, but it's worth mentioning the fact that we offer a service to members attempting to locate miss-matched serial numbered items.

When we original started this site back in 2005, my wife who is an avid Enfield collector had an idea to help members try and match orphaned serial numbered items they may have, with other members who may have their mates.

In ~Angel~'s "Match Making" Service (click here) forum, there's two threads that help match people who either have [b]SCOPES looking for Rifles (click here)/[b], or RIFLES looking for Scopes (click here).

In those specific threads, there's a lot of Enfield collectors who have posted serial numbers of No.32 scopes and No.4(T)'s they're been trying to mate up, A few have actually found mates.

    Regards,
    Badger

There's private and then there's "Super Secret Squirrel" private. Keeping things quiet until you publish or otherwise disseminate for best accuracy is well and good, to be applauded even, but I've known quite a few folk who have taken their wealth of knowledge to the grave w/ them, because they did not want others to have a leg up on 'em.

Myself, I don't have any expectations of making a living from all this, or even breaking even, so I don't mind sharing info. I do know when to keep my yap shut if it will hurt someone else's efforts, I hope!

Just wondering if it wouldn't be best for folk to at least let it be known that they ARE doing research, though...Might help things along.

I have tried 3 times to keep a record of sniper and scopes and mounts that have popped up on the internet and failed each time. It is a shame my resolution was not stronger as I once found a matching of a Kodak Mk I scope and mount in PA and a rifle in CA. But by the time I did, the scope in PA was long gone and the owner was either not interested in my find or changed his email as I never heard from him.

I've found a few mismatched scopes in other parts of the world, including a derelict Mk1 scope that featured as a number on the wrist of a No4T. The T had another couple of scope numbers marked on it so finding the first and original was a good find.

One problem that I have encountered recently was on the finder forum with Navy Shooter, who has an original scope case marked with original rifle and scope. But the current scope owner has it 'matched' to its original all matching rifle............ and it's not the one on the scope case!
