Also look at the auction houses.

Do I need more than one barrel?
    Probably not.

The chances of finding another barrel that will headspace the same is pretty slim.

I disagree with that. I have had no trouble fitting barrels to my SA bren's. I have 2 barrels fitted for each gun that use 1 barrel nut and some other barrels that if I wanted to use them I would have to change the barrel nut to make it work. I recently picked up a new Mk2 barrel and it dropped right into my Mk2 no fitting required.

I am happy for you, Mr. E.

I haven’t had your luck (finding two barrels that HS with one nut).

Maybe I’ll get some barrel nuts and see if I can get another barrel to HS.

We were NEVER that lucky in finding barrels that would fit and CHS without a bit of work. While I found Brens VERY forgiving out in the rough and tumble of service life, I never found one that was forgiving on my workshop bench!

I must just be supper lucky then. I built a Mk2 and set the HS to the barrel I had for it and a few years later I scored a new Mk2 barrel and it went straight in with the same barrel nut and HS is good. I built a Mk1 converted to a Mk3/1 but only had a Mk1* barrel then a short while latter I scored that Mk3/1 barrel that was posted on this forum and it fitted up with same barrel nut as the Mk1 barrel and again HS is good. I do have 3 other barrels that dont fit or will fit with a different barrel nut but HS is a bit sloppy so those barrels are in the parts/trade pile.
What I am calling good is anywhere between .064 and .070

I've been reading into the subjective hailstorm that is "to get a C&R or not", there's something I'm a tad confused about. For NFA items, did I read correctly that if I found a C&R bren at a show I could show my licence and walk out with it? Or they'd ship it to me after payment? What about the finger cards/photo/paperwork/background check that takes forever?

I do apologize for asking this perennial question yet again, but as many C&R guns I've seen online require a C&R licence on the part of the buyer (that is, the seller's requirement is the buyer has one for the transfer), I feel compelled to seek clarification. I'll probably call ATF next week and ask there too. Have not seen this particular tack on this question answered to my satisfaction online.

C&R transferable can ship direct to a C&R holder as soon as the form 4 clears.
no C&R it has to go to your local dealer first the transfer to you

for the purpose of C&R you are the local dealer
