Carcano unidentifiable model

I bought a rifle with no markings, no sights, and a cut stock. The barrel is about 24" from the chamber forward and slugs .264. I can't figure out what model it is.
Anybody have a suggestion on how to tell?

I also need new sights. Where is the best place to find them? Been looking on GB and Ebay with little success for a reasonable price.

Posting some pics would be a big help. About all anybody can tell you based on the info you've provided so far is you have something in 6.5mm, provided the bore slugging is accurate.

I also need new sights. Where is the best place to find them?

Gotta figure out what it is first but if the barrels been chopped an original front sight probably won't do you much good/

If it has a 24" barrel there only three models it could be.

1. a M91 Infantry Rifle
2. a M41 Infantry Rifle
3. a Type I Japanese rifle

Looking at the picture the barrel seems to have a round area to the front of the receiver. The M91s was octagonal or hexagonal (can't remember off the top of my head), so that rules that out. It likely isn't a Type I simply because I doubt that it is in 6.5 Japanese, and the stock if original isn't dovetailed like a Type I would be (plus it would have a Mauser style magazine). Most likely it was a M41 Carcano (which would also make a lot of sense considering that tons were surplused in new or like new condition) as if it is round at the front, that was one of the changes the M41 had.

I agree, it seems the most likely candidate.

What sights would this have used?

M41's have adjustable rear sights graduated to 1000 yards/meters and band type front sight bases with drift adjustable blades. They turn up fairly often on ebay and also Numrich, Springfield Sporters, Sarco or Liberty Tree may have them. Probably will have to turn the muzzle diameter down a bit to get the FSB to fit since the barrels been chopped. It's a slight interferrence fit and secured by a set screw located in the dove tail under the blade. Never had a rear sight off but I don't think they're soldered. Far as I can tell it's held in place by a set screw like the front base.
Interesting project. What kind of mount is that? Is it overbore or offset?

The scope mount is a Pacmayr swing-lo. It isn't attached yet and is stuck on with VHB tape to see how it will function.
It does line up directly over the receiver and swings open for loading.

I may or may not drill and tape the receiver to use it. I might just go with irons.

If it were me, I'd mount the scope on it and be done with it. It has already been altered way beyond any chance of being brought back. Does it still require the clips or has it been given a mauser type magazine?

it still needs the clips. I don't think the barrel has been shortened. I have a trigger guard assembly coming soon.
