    New PF-series No4

Last week I glommed a new private series K31icon at an on-line auction. At the same auction I also won an Enfield No4 with a "no drill" scope mount. Both arrived at my FFL today and I got a chance to look them over before they went into his safe.

I've always wondered how a scoped no4 would shoot, but didn't want to drill any of my No4's. Not sure how well the B-Square no-drill mount works, but I'll soon be finding out.

The bore was spectacular and the auction description seemed right on the money.

    Description advised ...

Britishicon No. 4 MK I Bolt Action Rifle, #63599, .303 cal., 25'' barrel, dark phosphate finish, European walnut stock and brass buttplate. Rifle has been fitted with B-square scope mounted rings. Condition is very good. Action is crisp, bore is fine. Lightly import marked.

Get yourself a cheek piece for use with the scope, or you'll have a very sore jaw very quickly.
I can't vouch for the B Square version of the no-drill mount.

That's probably one of the scarcer dates for No.4 production.

As far a the B-Square rifle mounts go, I've never seen one that was worth having. The aluminum is barely heat treaed 6061 and just won't stay put. Have seen them fail on everything from Mausers to SVT-40s. The only mount of theirs that I've bought was for a 1911 and it was marginal to poor. The others have been from friends and customers of various gunsmiths. Plenty enough to opine that there's better gear out there. Brian Dickicon sells a good one from Fultons', IIRC.

I didn't want to offer my opinion on the commercialities of life but I WHOLE HEARTEDLY AGREE, 1001% with JM in his assessment above. The material is crap and that long virtually unsupported overhanging rail out on a limb at the front is bound to fail. The best telescope mount is the Fulton steel offering from Brian at BDLicon Ltd

I appreciate your candid assessment of the scope mount. Is the Fulton mount a "no drill".

I'm not too disappointed about the mount. I got this rifle for a very good price and am looking forward to firing it both with a scope and without.

The Fulton mount from BDLicon is a no drill. But don't forget, you're going to have to drill the butt if you want to put the cheek rest onto it! Unless you want to preserve it as-is and stick it on with some strong double-back adhesive of sorts

Couple of pics of the Fultons mount I have on my No4 7.62 sporter/ farm gun.

This mount was second-hand, and I believe that it is an earlier version, the most recent ones seem to have a full Picatinny rail to give more ring positions.

This stock has been refinished, so I don't have any objection to drilling it and mounting a cheek rest. Are reproduction wooden cheek rest available?

That is a pretty solid looking scope mount.

I finally picked up my Scoped Enfield and was able to give it a good going over. Rifle is in very good condition and the bore is spectacular. All matching. I'm not sure about the stock. It looks a little better than it does in the pictures, but it is different than my other No.4's.

I'll mount a scope on it and see how it shoots.

I'm looking in to getting one of the mounts from BDLicon.
