    SNIPERS DOWN SOUTH

I have started to write a short book on SNIPERS DOWN SOUTH, so the facts can be recorded from those who were there. In part it has been motivated by some of the nonsense spoken about and to give these lads credit where it is due.

It will include all Regiments snipers not just ours who used the L42A1, but I want to bottom out the facts not rubbish talked about 36 years later so its right for future generations. It will be written by both myself and Frank Fletcher an accomplished sniper with 2 PARA in Afghanistan, and a volunteer at our museum.

It will be in aid of The Parachute Regiment (Airborne Assault) museum who I have written two books for already, and will be costed very reasonably. The previous books namely BING the parachuting dog, and Myrtle the parachuting chicken, were written in my capacity as the fundraisng Trustee.

Frank has written the the SNIPER POCKETBOOK which sales aid wounded soldiers and selling well, highly recommended see below

    Simon,
Sadly the way they were treated on their return from the Falklands, regarding their rightful pensions after 22 years was disgraceful, and immediately after that, if any of them had done their service under Colours they went back to Nepal with very little and certainly weren't encouraged to remain in the UKicon, so I don't hold up much hope!!

Absolutely Gil, the way the Gurhka veterans have been treated over the years has been a disgrace, at least things seem to be changing now.

I wonder if the Indian Army treat their Gurhka regiment veterans any better?

If ever you are in Aldershot, walk down the High Street...................that sight will remain with you for a long time. Nepalese retired men some with their medals on, with the ribbons thumbed and dull, to basically say, look at me, I have nothing and gave my all for you and look what I am left with!

    Watty,
That would be great mate. Got Jerry Phillips 3 PARA who has joined this site too so will be very helpful for members, and loads of answers from other lads who want to be part of it.
I thought the Gurkhas were going to be the hardest to find, but in fact one of them contacted me yesterday and told me his story.......unique it was too!!
I have the Scots Guards/Royal Marines all catered for, but nothing back from the 1st Welsh Regiment Association or my own Battalion 2 PARA, if anybody knows any of their snipers down south please put them in touch with me.
    Gil
