Noobie Questions On Smith Corona

Hello name here is Ron. My first post and I am new to 1903A3. I've done quite a bit of reading on this sight and have learned a lot..... My SC has all correct markings except for two, I have questions on? The front sight blade has a letter A. Also on top of the of the rear stock, about four inches infront of the butt plate is the number 30. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Front sight is correct. Butt number(rack number) is the number assigned by its unit. DO NOT remove any Army markings. Actually adds to value.

I concur with Calif-Steve.

The "A" is a letter which designates the height of the front sight blade. Front sight blades were marked with an alphabetical letter to designate its height. An "A" blade is the tallest. Blade heights were selected to zero rear sight elevation.

The "30" is probably a rack number stamped by a military armorer to designate the rifle's location in an arms rack.

Thanks guys..... It appears I got an SC that is all correct. Barrel, stock, bolt, bolt sleeve etc. I have found no R parts and the barrel dated SC 6-43 is real close to the 472 serial number for 7-43. Great shiney bore, great wood too. I got this and a 1943 Union Hoe & Fork bayonet with original scabbard for $550.
All your help is appreciated.
