    Enfield #4 Mark 1 or 1*

I purchased a #4 that has a 1942 date and a four digit serial number, has the larger rear sight. and a matching magazine. All the markings are very faint with the exception of the serial number and the date on the rear band. Receiver markings are basically gone, weak enough that they cannot be photographed. Bore looks ok. Receiver is refinished, the rifle is a CAI import. Over all it's in well used condition, how do I determine who made it?

Likely obvious- but I am new to Enfields and I am trying to get to know them better.

Are you sure there are no other markings on the left side of the butt socket under the safety? Maybe a "B" or "M"? A photograph would be a big help.

    Looks like a B to me. I am guessing it's a BSA?

Can always fill in the stampings with white chalk to highlight them just wipe off the excess to leave the dust in the low parts that helps show up what they are others will then be able to assist you in defining what you have

You got it in one bczandm. My uneducated guess is it's one of Century Arms last big imports from Ankara, Turkeyicon. Many of the No.4's in that load were devoid of finish but in original, pretty much unaltered factory condition.

Does the bolt match? How's the bore? Why do you say the receiver is refinished. It looks like worn original blue to me.

I have it's near twin. Mine is a No4Mk1 made by BSA, their code was a M47 stamped on the left side of the socket.
