Axis screw for Parker Hale 5B sight...
Hello
I have a M1917 rifle which I fitted with a Parker Hale 5B sight a while ago. I just found that the axis screw (I think that's what it's called - holds the sight in place on the rifle) has sheared. Can anyone tell me if they're still available (I live in the UK), or alternatively let me know the dimensions, maybe I can get one made?
Thanks in advance
Andrew

Andrew,
Try Fultons of Bisley. They should have spares available.

I make these screws from time to time when the need arises, though I have not got any in stock at present. When it gets a bit warmer I'll go out to the workshop and do some.
I've got an original here which is not in bad shape.

Hello
Thank you for your reply - when you do make another batch of these screws perhaps you would let me know? At the moment an engineering friend of mine is trying to make something that "will do" by running a 7BA die down a metric screw - not an ideal solution I think you'll agree? But it might get the rifle shooting again.
I look forward to hearing from you.

The thing that can throw you is if someone has 'improved' it by trying to adapt it to another screwthread - I have encountered that a few times, and bushed the sight to accept the proper screw.
I'll try to get out to the workshop in the next week or two, if it ever warms up round here.

I modified mine. I re-tapped the hole in the sight base with either a 2-56 or 2mm thread, I can't remember which. I used whichever was closest to the diameter of the original sight screw. I used an allen head cap screw that was short enough to go between the gap in the sight base lugs on the receiver and thread into the sight base. I put the allen wrench right through the opposite screw hole in the receiver to tighten the screw. It works perfectly.
