I cannot see anything in the description that would justify such an opening price. It does have the earlier lock bar windage adjustment, but so what? The bore condition contributes little. However, if it does sell at this price, it is certainly good news for everyone owning an M-1.
There are members here who are very satisfied with firearms they have purchased through valleyguns.com. The operator of the website has no control over the prices of listings, of course. But it seems to me that the standard practice for many of the posters there is to pick a high, full retail price, and then wait for someone to offer even more.
As far as M-1s go, I have a typical Dane. Not one of the beautiful re-refurbished ones with fresh park. and a brand new barrel. Appears to be all Springfield, except for the BMR windage knob; bolt is Springfield, but has a Danish m/m electropencilled number. 3,11X,XXX serial, 4-49 barrel date. Bore looks shiney, I've not gauged it. Front hg is birch (not European beech). Overall it is a solid "good" condition, rear hg has a small chip above the operating rod, had a small crack which I repaired. Stock has numerous nicks dings. I glass bedded it to stabilize it. In other words, a fine shooter grade M-1. If the one at valleyguns is worth $1300, what is mine worth? I bought it at dealer cost, when there were lots and lots of them available. There could be room here for a sound return on a nominal investment.

With the barrel condition, it is not even worth half that. $400 maybe $500 in today's market if someone is looking for some of those particular parts on the rifle.
