    Feed jams

    Hey everyone,

I have an early Winchester and it regularly won't feed. How much up & down play (if any) should the magazine have? It has about 1/8" play. I didn't think about it when shooting yesterday to see if I push up on the mag while shooting if that would cure it. Any suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Darryl

Mag should be tight. Is your mag GI or aftermarket? Try another mag. Check holding lugs on mag for wear or tampering. Good luck

Your magazine spring may be in backwards. Had that happen on a GI 15 rounder. They usually always feed. Took it apart, and the spring was backwards. Most after market 30s suck, though.

    Check the spring.

    Thanks for the replies.

Shady, they are aftermarket 15 rounders, and I tried 3 different ones.

    Ima, I'll check that.

    Thanks again,
    Darryl

Replace the magazine catch as excess wear,

will cause problems. Should have the "underline M" on outward facing surface.

All mags to have the longest length to the rear of mag body.

IS this with FMJ or soft-nose ammo, may need to lightly polish the feed ramp.
