Can anyone tell me anything about this sword? The blade is 33in long. I wrapped the handle with plastic wrap because a couple of the twisted wires were broken on one end. It did not have a scabbard. I was also wondering about a rough estimate of what it might be worth. It was supposed to have been "found" in Germany during WWII but I think it predates WWII. I have another I'll post pics of later.

Prussian Manufacture by Weyersberg, Kirchbaum & Co. Blade engraving roughly translated means: In Steadfast Loyalty. Not sure what Regiment this if from. But it Looks like a heavy cavalry cerimonial variant. Hope this is some small assistance?

"In Treue Fest" roughly means "In Steadfast Loyalty" as tankhunter says. It is the Bavarian national motto so, while the sword was made by Weyersberg Kirschbaum in Solingen (they had edged weapons contracts all over the world including the US) it was made either on contract for the state of Bavaria or a Bavarian user. I have no idea what pattern (Model) sword it is but the condition is quite nice.

While I know your intentions are good wrapping the grip with plastic wrap, you will want to remove it as soon as possible. It will trap moisture and lead to mildew or rot of the sharkskin or whatever leather was used. Better to just handle it carefully until it can be repaired by someone qualified to do so.

Ok. Thank you for your advice. Another question I meant to ask was if anyone could suggest who could fix the handle?

The lion and that shield is also the Bavarian symbol.
