OT: collectable ammo value

Gents, I have some ammo that I may want to put on GB or whatever. Can someone give me an idea what to expect to get for it or where to realistically set the "bid start"? First I have an original WW2 53 rd. German 8mm machine gun belt with starter tab. Most cartridges are dated 43 or 44 and have various head stamps that seem to repeat themselves. This is in good to VG condition. I also have a 1944 partial .50 BMG linked belt with 14 live rounds in it in good condition. Also, a 63 round belt of '53 - '55 30-06 blanks,all U.S., good condition. I also have two 20 rd boxes of pre WW2 30-06 FA primed cases (uncrimped). TIA, Steve

As for sending, see my post titled UPS and ammo, not far from this post. I know nothing about how FedEx would handle it but am sure it would not be much differance. You cannot ship by post office. I think cost would not be worth the trouble. The ammo you have is not worth very much, in my opinion. Others will chime in, I'm sure. My package was 1.5 lbs.

Sell it localy if you must. Shipping costs make it not worth the effort.

I just shipped 60 rds of 30/06 tracer in 5 rd stripper clips by UPS. 4 lbs, it cost a bit over $9.00.
The blanks can be sent thru the mail, but not live ammo. Not sure about the primed cases, but I think also mailable.
The German stuff is worth about 20-25¢ a rd, the belt $5 and the starter tab $7. UPS has a minimum of, I think, around $8 so it would cost half the value to ship it thus raising the cost by 50% - or more that it is worth.
I agree, sell it localy.

9.00? Why aren't their rates standard every where? I paid (if you did not read my post) 18 and change for 1.5 #, 50 rnds. 380 ACP! Another reason to stay away from UPS! And FedEx too, for that matter!

Best of luck selling it. I had a small bucket of loaded cartridges I've picked up over the years including WW1 German 9mm ball, 1890s FA .45-70, WW1 .30 and .45 rounds, 20s vintage UMC handgun cartridges, .44 Russian from the 1890s, I could go on and on. Nobody wanted it. I finally gave it to a guy at the range who collects the stuff.

What did you do - ship it next day air??? I sent mine normal ground.
I think UPS has a mimimun fee of around $7, which is what yours should have been. I'd call UPS and ask WFT!
