removing flash suppressor on #5 enfield

The flash suppressor on my recently acquired Enfield #5 (Jungle Carbine) is pitted badly. I have a new one that I would like to replace it with. How does the suppressor/front sight assembly come off? I have removed the pins holding it on, but it will not budge. Were they soldered on? If so, would heating with a propane torch do any harm?

Thanks for any help you can give me.

The flash hider is held in place by two pins. Look for two small filled depressions
on the body of the flash supressor. Its best to try and ues a dremel with a very small grinding point to give your pin punch a place to grab on to. Usually they are contourded to match the supressor body. Sometimes they can be very hard to locate and drive out the pins. In addition the supressor is a very tight fit on the barrel. So you may need a hard block of wood to start it moving. Thye one I had to remove was for a friend and it had been in addition to the fit and two pins been soldered also. So you may want to have the tourch warming up the supressor body to play it safe. On the barrel there are two corresponding grooves that the two pins go through. So once you get the pins out and have heated thebody and get the supressor moving expect to see these two grooves.
No big deal but just so you know that they are there. Once you get past the two grooves removal should be straight forward. Hope this helps. Frank

The other thing is, the flash hider was put on and then the holes were drilled. They won't all be the same. Don't expect the holes to line up. Good luck getting it top dead center.

Mr. Laidlericon posted a while back on the method of flashhider replacement used by the Britishicon armourers. (It may have been back in the old Joustericon days) Getting the front squared up relies on using the rear sight axis pin hole as a datum. Action inverted, slave pin through hole, supported on each side by a v-block which rests on a surface plate (or glass) large enough to also rest the front sight ears upon.

His description is much more detailed!

method of flashhider replacement used by the B

"Mr. Laidlericon posted a while back on the method of flashhider replacement used by the Britishicon armourers"

That would be something to have in our files, did anyone save it? I did a quick search but nothing turned up.

    Thanks for your time.

Probably from the OLD Joustericon forum, some things folks saved computer style, me, I have a 14" thick stack of UNSORTED Peter Laidlericon et al posts. Its probably in there somewhere! Try this query in the Lee Enfield Forum with ref. to Mr. Laidler's tutorial- who knows? Its worked before.

The way I took off my flash hider, first drive out the taper pins, Take 2 pieces of mild 1" square steel 4" long, clamp them together. Drill ¼” holes 3/4” from each end so you can bolt them together. Next take the two pieces bolted together and drill a hole 2” from the ends in the center of the seam. The diameter of hole is just larger than the barrel diameter at the flash hider. This will allow you clamp around the barrel under the flash hider. Note: diameter of hole is larger than the barrel so it can slide when clamp. Next turn a press pin slightly smaller than the hole where the flash hider and crown of barrel meet (used tool steel so it will not bend and only long as flash hider). I used a 12 ton press. You may have to remove stock to fit the rifle in press with flash hider pointing towards the ram. Clamp the two pieces around the barrel under the flash hide and place in press so your press plates support the two pieces and rifle. Take the press pin and place it in the flash hider and press out the barrel. If it doesn’t press out with reasonable pressure, ease off a little and apply heat to soften solder and press again. I used a lot of pressure before it moved.
