Any feedback on Springfield match ammo?

There's a lot of feedback on the Hornady ammo when used in Garands. I have not seen any on it when used in 1903 or 1903A3 rifles.

    Anybody?

I had no function problems with it at the Eastern games in my 03A3. It did create some issues for sighting however that I will have to address before Perry. I found that with my sights set for 1977 HXP the Hornady ammo hit at about 5 O'Clock in the 5 fing. Windage was not a problem to correct but elevation was right between two detents in the elevation slide for me. I had to choose between holding either at the top of the black or holding a pretty good amount of white. My eyes aren't good enough to repeat the large line of white so I ended up holding at the top of the black and I know I lost a few points to poor elevation control. It's not the ammos fault, I just have to use a different front sight blade so my 6 O'Clock hold will put the rounds into center black using one of the detents.

Just my experience but it gives me an excuse for not getting a gold with the Springfield.

    PS
Accuracy was a bit better (seems like it anyway) then HXP and functioned just fine.

I've never had any sticking problems with HXP so I really can't give an accuracte report. That being said the Hornady ammo cycled slick as a cat's A$$.

Changed to a shorter front sight blade and got to the range yesterday. Used some left over Hornady CMPicon ammo and placed a 5 shot group into the 10/X ring I could cover with the palm of my hand. Shot the group from 200 yards prone with a sling so I'm happy camper & pretty much ready for Perry. Thanks CMP for some good ammo

Bolt sticking on A3 with HXP

I had that happen in Feburary during a " Frozen Chosin" match held in NH. during a rapid fire string. 25 rounds in 3 minutes in three feet of snow. Next time I'll either use come hi-temp grease or graphite on the locking lugs. Doesn't help that the parkerizing is still new though!

    Kirk,
The ammo was the new Hornady match stuff that was being issued at the CMPicon Eastern Games this year. It was lot # 3090915. It's a 168 gr A-Max bullet at about 2600 fps and identified as Hornady # 81170. Seems to be pretty good stuff.

Ihave some CMPicon ammo in a white box (somewhere) & thought it may be the same. I doubt it has the 168s in it. I think it is 5-6 years old.

    Thanks!

The Federal ammo used before the HXP had 150gr FMJ bullets. It shot decently, perhaps a shade better than the HXP.
