Surplus Egyptian 8mm Mauser ammo

I just picked up some surplus Egyptian 8mm Mauser ammo. It is 1970's production, brass cased, corrosive and non reloadable. It came in a box of 50rounds, at a price of $15/box. I decided to buy some to try in my son's M24/47. Has anyone tried this ammo? Does any one know if it is heavy ball (196~198gr) or light ball (154gr)? Any informaton would be appreciated. Thanks.

I don't know if it is heavy or light ball. But if it is anything like the batch that I once bought and fired, it is sure enough loaded to kill! I bought a box of 100 rds. and fired it through a M-98/48. Shooting across a large pond at a target stapled onto a tremendous large pine tree, I found the rounds completely penetrated the pine. Distance was well over 100 yds. I've never had a problem tolerating recoil, but this ammo kicked so hard that I actually had to roll up some newspaper to pad my shoulder. Accuracy was good w/ groups running 2-3 inches. Feeding, firing and ejection were in every respect perfect. HTH. Sincerely. BruceV.

I too have used the stuff, and it performed well for me. I also noted the recoil factor being upped a tad.

I used the firing pin indent in the primer as a guide to drill out the interior anvil and make a flash hole, pried out the primer, and reloaded the stuff. Numerous reloads on the cases with no problems. I didn't know it was corrosive. Live and learn.

The Eqyptian 7.92mm ball is 198 grain and Corrosive! Most of it shoots pretty good for me.

The Egyptian ammo has steel jackets and is more accurate than most military ammo.
