I have had an ongoing argument for 12 years on my satellite dishes my dish predates the formation of the HOA - the builder wired my house for satellite when it was built 12 years ago - they are oblivious to the FCC rule on dishes - want me to provide an application for them to approve - told them to screw off for years

Some of those Homeowners Associations are completely tyrannical. After "The Board" sets the standards they have to find something each year to make them feel important.

One association in a Chicago suburb dictates what color the house must be, the types of flowers allowed and how many of each type are allowed to be planted. The list of "rules' is long and then there's a set of "preferences" they hand to individual homeowners. These include things like the color of the garden hose, the type of lawn sprinkler...right down to the types of window treatments they would like to see.

I couldn't believe the list of repairs they handed her. Somebody had to literally go on to her property and touch things up close to spot some of the trivial items on there. She was given 30 days to comply or be fined.

Her neighbor was ordered to remove a shrub that he had gotten permission to plant only two years earlier!

The word from the board has always been, "If you don't like our rules, then you have the right to move away".

IF YOU DON'T LIKE OUR RULES!!!!! You have the right to vote the tyranical A-holes off the board.
We have some rules in the mobile home park in which I reside that pretty much everyone obeys but in our small part way in the back we have our own. If they deserve it (and if they don't deserve it they usually don't last long)treat your neighbors with respect, help out when you can, and last but not least mind your own business.

I never did care much for other people telling me I gotta do this or I can't do that. It just kind of puts about 300 lbs of torque to my jaws
